Saturday Night Gardening

So this week has been crazy busy! Not only was it our first week of summer camp at work, but my parents bought a house! Between work and running around helping my parents get ready to move, I haven't had time to do much of anything, although something strange happened with Schotzie this week though...

She grew a mustache!

This weekend I was able to get a little bit more gardening done, because I must admit that I've become quite the garden-holic. The Home Depot had a bunch of Cati on sale and we just happened to have an old aquarium at the house. So I decided to make a terrarium for my mother's new sun room at her new house.

It didn't take much. I used some aquarium gravel on the bottom of the tank for drainage and cactus soil mixed with sand from the back yard. I really enjoyed making this one, and I think with some of the other Cati that I have left I'll make one for my dorm room at school.
I'll be busy helping my parents move for the next couple of weeks, but hopefully I'll be able to get some actual crafting done soon. I've got a special project up my sleeve, but I'm keeping it a secret till it's all done!

There's a fine line between an epic win and an epic fail

Last night I decided to make my very own granola bars. You can find the recipe here. It's a really simple recipe to make and it's a ton of fun.

The "glue" was made out of brown sugar, honey, and butter so it's really sweet and makes everyone come out into the kitchen to see what that wonderful smell is. After that's all melted together you combine it with your granola in a big bowl.

You can read all of the other directions in the link if you'd like, but the most important part of the recipe is where all of the granola is in your pan and you must compress the granola down to make it all stick together. If you don't complete this part properly, you'll end up with granola clumps disguised as granola bars like I did. So to help my granola clumps, I placed them into the fridge in the hopes that they will harden up. Sadly, they didn't. However I did make a nifty sign to alert late night refrigerator vistors! (Also as a disclaimer: one in the morning is not the time to realize that you don't remember how to spell refrigerator! =])

Even though my granola bars didn't turn out perfect, they are still quite yummy and I was able to make quite a few to take to work with me for snack time with the campers! Besides, who wouldn't want a granola bar the size of Schotzie's head?

More planting!

So I seem to have the planting bug lately, which means that I will risk being eaten alive by the swarm of mosquitoes in my backyard in order to sow some seeds. Today I gave a couple more shots to planting, both of which I'm not entirely sure will actually sprout. First of all they are both old seeds, one is from 2009 and the other from 2005. Second, my lovely 3 year old German Shepard, Schotzie, ran head first into the pot and scattered soil and seeds everywhere. Maybe with lots of love, sunshine, and water, and a little help from God, the seeds will be able to fulfill the promise that was made to them ages ago.

One pot is actually the top of a blank cd case! If you look closely enough you might even be able to see some Schotzie hair from when she knocked the pot over. That silly puppy! Also you can see that my Cosmos are sprouting up nicely, however the wildflowers are taking a little more time to come around. I'll just be patient with them for now.

Planting isn't the only thing that I've been up to today though. I also had time to whip up a quick batch of my favorite Mexican Dip. It's great for chips and even leftover chicken strips!

Here's the recipe:
1 can refried beans
1/2 container of sour cream
1 cup salsa
2 chopped green onions
1/2 chopped tomato
1 leaf chopped lettuce
1 package shredded cheese

This recipe is actually really simple and can be served hot or cold, but I prefer hot to melt the cheese. Pre-heat the oven to 350 and get a small casserole dish. Mix all the ingredients together and add the shredded cheese on top at the very end. Bake for 10-15 minutes or until cheese is melted and dip is hot. Let it cool and enjoy!

Humble Beginnings

Well, this is my first entry of my brand spankin' new blog! This is something that I've wanted to do for a very long time and have finally gotten the gumption up to do it. Before I get carried away with myself and all my grand plans that I've laid out let me write out the goals I have for this blog.

1. I hope that this blog will help me grow not only as a crafter and an artist, but help me expand my creative boundaries.

2. I also want to use this blog as a way to help record my many adventures in college.

3. Lastly, I want to use this as a way to share ideas about the life and all that is good and amazing in it!

Well, now that we've gotten that out of the way, on to the fun stuff! For my first "project" (well, it's not really a project, but anyways) I was able to go out and get a little bit of planting done today! That is as much as I could do before the mosquitoes nearly ate me alive.

I was able to get two pots planted! One pot is an old milk pitcher that I saved from the trash one day. This one has Comsos planted in it.

The second is a pot that I just had laying around. It desperately needs a new paint job, but I haven't decided what yet....bumble-bee maybe? I'm open to suggestions! This one holds a lovely mix of fragrant wildflowers.

I've been known to kill plants before, but lets hope these sprout!
